Chloe’s tip : « The end of the day is the perfect time to wander around the city’s narrow streets. You can get to the Porte d’Aude from the lower city, from the foot of the hill. The two châtelets (small fortresses) and the Place des Armes are wonderful »
The medieval city of Carcassonne sits on a rocky outcrop overlooking the river Aude, and you can see 1000 years of architectural history here. The castle, which you can visit, was built in the 12th century by the House of Trencavel.
